Most of us moms can probably list our favorite books from childhood and relay the characters, story-line, and emotions with vivid ease. With wonderful memories and imaginative stories, these iconic books for children are so important for us to share with our kids, for a variety of reasons.
As the internet and media continue to bombard us with mixed messages, books help teach our children important values, help to develop their imaginations, help them build resilience, and my personal favorite, allow for bonding time between us and our kids.
Iconic Books for Children
Invaluable created a fun infographic that highlights some of the most iconic children’s books and what important lessons each reveal.
The visual includes some of my favorites, like Roald Dahl’s The BFG, a great case for teaching your little ones the importance of accepting others and embracing each other’s differences. Or Virginia Lee Burton’s The Little House, a beautiful picture book that tells of a cute country cottage that becomes engulfed by the city that grows up around it. It is a powerful lesson in overcoming tough times.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Giving Tree are also all outlined in this informative, fun visual graphic. Use it as inspiration next time you read to your kids, as a means to find the lessons and values in the words and pictures they’re absorbing.
