Last year, I came up with a plan to do an “egg your yard” service for families who didn't want to have to fill and hide Easter eggs for their kids. Whether they were just short on time, or didn't feel like doing it, it was the perfect idea!
Egg Your Yard: Side Hustle Idea
When it was time to execute the idea, I was dealing with kidney issues, and then COVID hit, and I had a whole list of excuses as to why I couldn't do it. This year, I decided it would be different. I made a plan, and on Easter (4/4), I'll execute it! 🙂

What is “egg your yard”?
Egg Your Yard is a service where you deliver filled eggs to houses in your area! Customers pay a set amount (I charge $40 for 50 eggs) ahead of time, and you deliver the eggs on the day/evening before Easter.
It's simple, straight-forward, and an easy way to make some money. Just like with all the other side hustles, how much money you make depends on YOU!
Who will you serve?
Who you serve depends on your area. My area is fairly rural, so instead of just covering one zip code, we cover 3. We are offering this service to 40 households this year, so my daughter and I are going to do 20 houses, and my husband and our other daughter will do the other 20 houses.
Our town is also not as affluent as the surrounding towns, so our main focus is the bigger town that's right next to us.
How many customers do you want?
Rather than leaving it up to chance – and maybe only getting 3 customers, or maybe getting 1,000 customers, we decided to set a limit. We are doing 40 houses.
Decide how many houses you want to serve. Work backwards to figure out how many families you can deliver to, and how many supplies you'll need to order.
First, figure out where you're going to get your eggs the cheapest. Then, you'll need to decide what to fill them with. Keep your costs low!
For example, we charge $40 for 50 eggs delivered. We paid less than $.20 per filled egg, with the exception of the Golden Eggs we include in each order (those are $.35 each). This means we pay about $10 per 50 eggs.
There are other expenses, such as advertising (domain, Shopify, etc – I'll talk about that in a moment), but overall the profit margins are pretty big here.
Time IS money. The time involved includes a few days leading up to the egg drops (or just one day, depending on how many hands you have on deck, how many houses you're doing, and if you're buying pre-filled eggs or empty ones and filling them yourselves), and then of course however many hours the egg drops take.
Word of mouth will be a great way to advertise locally. You can even offer an incentive if someone refers a friend or neighbor!
Say you get a customer who places a $50 order. Then, they refer a few friends who do the same. Offer that customer an incentive, like a free add-on (something cheap like a photoshopped picture). Rewarding referrals is a great way to get MORE of them. 😉
Flyers – Yes, old school! Flyers work! You can hang flyers at local grocery stores or anywhere that allows flyers to be hung on bulletin boards. Ask local gas stations to let you advertise in their shops as well.
Facebook Marketplace – Start advertising on Marketplace in March at the latest. Most of your orders will come in at the end of March, most likely, so make sure you have all of your supplies on hand ahead of time.
Church – Hopefully, churches will not be putting on egg hunts this year. Connecting with a local church to offer basket drop offs, or adding a religious add-on to your packages, is a great way to increase sales.
Upsells and Add-Ons
You're going to make the real money on upsells. Just like with any business, we list the product at a low enough price to be enticing but also make us a great profit. The upsells are where the gold is! 🙂
Some of the upsells we are offering include a photoshopped picture of the Easter Bunny in their yard, a letter from the Easter bunny, and custom Easter baskets.
You can easily add customized upsells for $25 or more – don't doubt yourself, people WILL buy these!!
How to create your own graphics
Use Canva!! Hands down, Canva is the best tool I've ever used – because it's SO EASY! I am not a graphic designer, I'm clueless about Photoshop, but I can kick ass with Canva. Watch some YouTube videos on how to design in Canva and you'll be a pro in no time.
Designing DOES take time… it's an investment, but you can do it! Start now so you can have it all planned out before you start advertising in February/March.

You will also need:
- a domain (I get mine at GoDaddy. Namecheap is another option)
- Shopify LITE – you will use this on your Facebook Fan Page

Setting up your Egg Your Yard domain
Choose a name for your domain, and then buy it (I use GoDaddy). Then, use this tutorial to walk you through exactly how to forward your domain to your Facebook fan page.
Setting up Shopify LITE on Facebook
If you're brand new to working online, you may wonder how in the world you're going to be able to connect Shopify to Facebook.
First, you need a Facebook fan page and a Shopify LITE account:
Then, connect your Shopify “buy button” to your Facebook fan page.
If this seems complicated, it's NOT! Just take it one step at a time. Use YouTube and any other free resources (like tutorials from Facebook and Shopify) to make it happen.
You could also keep it simple with a Google form if you're only advertising in local groups, but I feel like a website of some sort or at least a fan page will help you appear more professional and trustworthy from the get go.
Local folks can be difficult to get on board with paying for things online in FB Marketplace because of all the scams. To maximize sales, I recommend a professional-looking set up. Don't overthink it!
Creating a route
Creating a route will be super easy for some, and difficult for others. My brain does NOT work well with directions and routes, so Kevin handles the route stuff.
We do have some tips and examples in our Egg Your Yard Bundle to make sure you create a route in the most efficient way.
My best tip for creating a route is to sit down and draw it all out so you know exactly which houses are where. Then, you can create a big loop to egg them all most efficiently.
How much money can I make?
How much money you make with Egg Your Yard totally depends on YOU! Set a goal and work backwards to figure out how to do it. What does this look like?
Say I want to make $1,000. I decide to price my packages at $50 each. My supplies cost $10 per house. This means I'm serving 50 houses to profit $40 per house and make $1,000.
In reality, I'll make more than the $1,000 because there will be upsells and add-ons, but I'm keeping it simple for math. 🙂
