11 Mel Robbins Quotes to Get You Out of Your Own Way

Mel Robbins is right up there with Gary Vaynerchuk: she's one of the most motivating people on this planet!

I've learned a lot from listening to Mel Robbins, especially when it comes to visualization and getting rid of negativity. You have to continually train your mind. Your mind will be negative, it will try to sabotage you, and you have to work hard to fight against those things.

Best Mel Robbins Quotes

“Start before you're ready. Don't prepare, begin.”

So many of my clients tell me they're going to create a digital product when they're “ready” but it's kind of like having a baby… nobody is every truly READY, we just figure it out when the baby arrives.

You can read and study and learn all the things but until the day comes and you have that screaming, pooping, puking little bundle of joy in your arms, you really aren't READY.

While it's important to learn, it's more important to take action and stop talking yourself out of shit.

“You need to hear this loud and clear: No one is coming. It is up to you.”

The calvary isn't coming, ladies. It's up to us to create our own dream lives. When you stop trying to wait on someone else or stop relying on other people, a powerful thing happens: you become #1.

You become the person you listen to, you become the person you rely on, and you become the person who achieves success… because waiting on other people is too much of a crap shoot for me!

“You Are One Decision Away from a Completely Different Life”

When I was homeless, I thought a lot about the decisions I had made that led up to me living in a shelter. It was never just one thing, of course, but had I done one thing differently, my entire life would've been different.

Life is a “choose your own adventure” story, but you have to CHOOSE. You have to PICK SOMETHING. You have to TAKE ACTION.

“You have been assigned this mountain so that you can show others it can be moved.”

Throughout my life, I've always known I was called to help and serve. At some points I wasn't sure who I was supposed to serve or how I was supposed to serve them, but every day I take a step towards feeding more people, towards helping more people start their businesses... every day I am one step closer to moving this mountain so others can do the same.

“Forget motivation. It’s a myth.”

Man, I hate that this is so damn true. I wish it was a big fat lie because if it was a lie, I could blame my lack of success in the fitness department on lack of motivation. But motivation is made up. Discipline is what carries us through.

“I was the problem and in five seconds, I could push myself and become the solution.”

Admitting you are the problem is a huge deal, and many of us have been incapable of doing so for years and years.

At the end of the day, though, we've gotta look around and realize that where we are in life is a result of our actions and decisions. If we don't like our lives, we need to make different decisions and take a different path.

“The time is now. Stop hitting the snooze button on your life.”

It's so damn easy to hit the snooze button, especially when the alarm goes off early in the morning. Hitting the snooze button is like taking a step backwards. Every day that you choose to snooze instead of grind, you've left money on the table.

“Your problem isn't ideas. Your problem is you don't act on them. You kill them.”

Ideas are a dime a dozen! Ideas aren't special! Taking action is the special sauce.

“Your life and your dreams are your responsibility. If you don’t prioritize them, nobody will.”

Many of us grew up with less than supportive families. All of the adults in my life failed me in one way or another, and as an adult myself, I'm sure I've failed others as well. But my life is my responsibility, and I've finally learned that it's up to ME to prioritize creating my dream life.

“Small things are not small at all. They are the most important things of all. And they add up.”

Every week when I'm reviewing check-in forms for my PIPs membership, most people will say they felt like they didn't do enough throughout the week.

This means they either A: did enough and are downplaying it, or B: slacked week after week and did nothing to change it.

Those are the options. Did you really not do well this week? Again? Why are you doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Or did you really put the work in and your brain is telling you that you shouldn't “brag” about it?

I'm here for it. Brag away!! Please tell me about the hard work you put in! I will celebrate with you.

If you find yourself struggling with recognizing your accomplishments, start using journal prompts to remind you of what you've done each day.

“If you want to make your dreams come true, get ready for the long game.”

Building a business to six figures and beyond is not a short-term game. You're going to have to put the work in, sometimes year after year, until it “pops” – it takes time.

The 5 Second Rule

How the 5 Second Rule works:

From the moment you have an impulse to act on a goal, you've gotta move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it. Your brain sabotages you on a regular basis. Acting within 5 seconds acknowledges you have this moment where you are afraid, and that's normal… but you can use the 5 Second Rule to push through it.

Your life changes when you take action, and that is what the 5 Second Rule is all about.

The High 5 Habit

Mel Robbins' newest book, The High 5 Habit, is just as awesome as The 5 Second Rule!

If you're struggling with energy, focus, and discipline, try The High 5 Habit:

Right after you brush your teeth in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror. Decide how you're going to show up today, who you're going to be, and what matters to you.

Then, raise your hand and “high five” your reflection. As you raise your hand, you silence the critic in your mind and seal your intention with your reflection. It seems hokey, but we know she knows what she's talking about… so let's try it! Watch the video below, then use this link to join the free High 5 Challenge!

My favorite Mel Robbins quote

This is a really long quote, but I watch her videos a lot and this moment really stood out to me. There are so many people I reach on a daily basis who are just ONE step away from greatness but their brains talk them out of taking action. Life begins once you step through that door.

“What I am really present to in the work that I'm putting out, the stuff that I'm sharing… is just how much people are holding themselves back, and how much pain people feel because most folks know what they dream about and what they want.

And yet they're spending all of their time and energy arguing against what they want… I hope people will have this massive ‘a-ha!' moment, but it's not gonna mean fucking shit if you don't take action and do something about it.

The ‘a-ha!' moment is the door that opens, but your new life does not begin unless you fucking step through the door. And most people… when you have an ‘a-ha!' moment, instead of saying ‘I've got this, let's go' – most of us say ‘I don't know if right now is the right time to do this, I've failed so many times I can't go through that door.'

There's something in your life, you can FEEL it pulling you, and you're actively working against it.”

Stop working against your destiny! Become the best version of yourself possible.
