Do you have a favorite tarot card to tap into when times get tough? I have a few, but recently I started paying more attention to the Strength card.
I realize the meaning is about far more than physical strength, but it's helping me get up in the morning and get on the treadmill for the first time in years. So, my internal strength is going to help me build my external strength!
Strength Tarot Card Meaning
The Strength tarot card symbolizes courage, persuasion, influence, and compassion. It's about overcoming challenges through inner strength and resilience, rather than through brute force.
Does the Strength tarot card actually mean strength?
Why yes, yes it does. Moreso inner strength than anything, but I'm sure if you used it for focus while at the gym every day, it could help with your physical strength, too. 😉 Tapping into tarot manifestation is as much about learning what the cards mean and trusting your intuition as it is taking action and doing the thing instead of waiting for things to just happen.
The Strength card is associated with the manifestation of abundance, wealth, and inner peace. For me, inner peace came when I was able to breathe and pay my bills… so it makes sense to me that I associate both things with this card.
What about you? How do you feel when you see the Strength card pop up in a reading?
In tarot readings, the Strength card's imagery of a woman's head and a lion convey themes of compassion, control, resilience, and determination.
Understanding the Strength Tarot Card
Remember that your tarot journey is unique. The blog posts I write, journals I create, etc are all to assist you on your path – not to create the path for you. Tarot is very much a personal thing and that looks different for each of us. Trust yourself.
Symbolism in the Strength Card
The original imagery (Rider-Waite-Smithe) of the Strength card shows a woman gently taming a lion, symbolizing inner strength and resilience. The infinity symbol above her head suggests limitless potential and spiritual growth.
Her white robe signifies purity and innocence, embodying courage and control over primal instincts. Together, these symbols convey the message of courage and fortitude in the face of challenges.
The woman in this card reminds me of the strength of the High Priestess and The Empress.
Connection to Manifesting Money
Interpreting the Strength card in the context of manifesting wealth reveals a powerful message. Just as the woman demonstrates resilience in taming the lion, manifesting money requires determination and unwavering belief in your own abilities.
Strength and perseverance can pave the way for financial success, reminding us that abundance flows where energy goes. By channeling your inner strength and staying focused on your goals, you can attract prosperity into your life.
In other words, when you DO THE THING, good things happen. You are in control of your life.
Numerology and the Strength Card
In numerology, even though it's the ninth Major Arcana card because the Fool is the number 0, the Strength card is associated with the number 8.
The number 8 symbolizes balance, harmony, power, prosperity, and infinite possibilities. I mean think about it: if you turn an 8 sideways, it's literally an infinity symbol! 🙂 This reinforces the card's message of inner strength and resilience in overcoming obstacles – even if it takes a few tries to get over that hurdle.
Imagery Meaning
The powerful imagery of the Strength card conveys a sense of calm authority and courage. Even though this is a card that has a woman depicted, it reminds me of my husband because he's authoritative, courageous, and powerful… but always very calm. I'm quite the opposite!
The woman's peaceful demeanor while taming the fierce lion represents the ability to harness your inner power with grace and compassion. A calm but strong approach is ideal when you see this card pop up.
In the Lightseers deck, it's almost as if the woman has become the lion.
When you look at the Strength card, what do you see? Talk through it – say it out loud and you may get other ideas.
I see a woman, a lion, a lamb, a heart necklace, an infinity symbol tattoo, and the Leo constellation.
Upright Meaning
When drawn upright, the Strength card encourages you to embrace your inner strength and face challenges with courage and confidence. It signifies resilience, determination, and overcoming adversity with grace.
Upright Keywords
If you're writing down keywords or trying to memorize a few “trigger” words for your tarot reading journey, here are the ones I have written in my tarot journal for the Strength card:
- Courage
- Confidence
- Inner strength
- Resilience
- Compassion
- Self-control
Reversed Meaning
In reverse, the Strength card may indicate a lack of confidence or inner turmoil. It could suggest feelings of self-doubt or struggles with asserting your power. It nudges you to remind you to tap into your inner strength and trust in your abilities.
Reversed Keywords
Not everyone reads reversed cards; I didn't until nearly 2 decades into my journey. I still base my interpretation off of what I feel the card means in that specific reading for that specific situation rather than the card being upright or reversed.
- Insecurity
- Self-doubt
- Powerlessness
- Inner conflict
- Lack of control
Past, Present, Future Position
When the Strength card appears in a tarot spread, its placement can provide insight into different aspects of your life:
Past: Reflects inner strength and resilience you have shown in the past, shaping your current situation. What has led you to where you are now? How is that reflected in the Strength card?
Present: Indicates a need to tap into your inner power and face challenges with grace and determination. This is what's going on now, your current situation. How can you lean on the qualities of the Strength card to get through this?
Future: Suggests upcoming opportunities to showcase your strength and overcome obstacles with confidence. This is about what's coming your way; keep the Strength card close and remember you can overcome anything!
Card Combination Meanings
Interpreting single cards is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Understanding the intricacies of reading cards together can be difficult, so don't stress about it if you aren't there yet.
You just need to know the basics: when combined with other cards, Strength can enhance or alter the interpretation.
Strength + The Magician: Harnessing your inner strength to manifest your desires.
Strength + The Empress: Nurturing your inner power and creativity.
Strength + The Wheel of Fortune: Embracing change with courage and resilience.
Pro tip: If you are doing a tarot card reading and aren't sure what the cards mean, take a moment to pause and reflect on what you think they mean before using the book or Google.
Interpreting the Strength Card in Readings
Unlocking the depths of the Strength card requires tapping into your intuition. Trust your gut feelings and inner wisdom to reveal the card's hidden messages, allowing for a deeper understanding of its significance in your reading.
Don't just rely on keywords or what others say this card means; really take some time to reflect on the imagery and what your gut is telling you when you look at the card, feel the card in your hand, etc. If your deck isn't “speaking” to you, it may not be the right deck. It's okay to try a few out before deciding on your favorite tarot deck.
When you look at this card, what do you see? What do you feel? What stands out? Write these things out in your tarot journal.
Intuitive Reading of the Strength Card
When I teach new tarot card readers how to read cards, I don't rely on keywords and memorization so much as I do on helping them tap into their intuition. Especially as women, we have this amazing ability to actually listen to our gut and let it guide our life choices.
The difficult part is shutting up and listening. 😉 Listen to your inner voice and feelings when the Strength card appears in a reading. Take a moment to meditate on the imagery of the card and feel its strength resonating within you.
Trust your instincts, pay attention to the imagery and symbols, and allow your intuition to guide you through the interpretation process.
Manifesting Success with the Strength Card
You can harness the Strength card's power! Use the card as a tool to manifest success in all areas of your life, especially those that will take additional strength on your part to achieve inner peace.
Visualize your goals, channel the card's courage and determination, and believe in your ability to achieve success. Then, put the work in to make it happen. Manifestation isn't magic: it's planning plus hard work.
By embracing your intuition and applying the Strength card's energies to manifest success, you can unlock a world of possibilities and achieve your dreams with unwavering strength and determination.
